What We Believe

Below you will find brief statements of many of our core beliefs.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Bible—the Old Testament and the New Testament—is God’s Word to us, His creation. It is the chief way in which we learn what He is like, what He has done for us, and how we can live in ways that please Him. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20–21)

The Godhead

We believe in a Triune God, existing in the three equal Persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, was fully God and fully man. Born of a virgin, He lived a perfect life. Through His death and resurrection, He took the punishment for sin that we deserve and triumphed over sin and death, making our salvation possible. Today, He is exalted in Heaven, and we look for His return someday. (Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1–2)

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in all believers, guiding us as we grow in our faith and as we display our faith in encouraging and serving others. (John 16:8–11; Ephesians 1:13–14)

Humanity’s Need for Salvation

We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image but that through their rebellion, sin entered the world. Through an inherited sinful nature and the sinful acts that we commit, we are separated from God and unable to change that condition on our own. However, our rescue from God’s wrath and our reconciliation with Him were made possible through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is ours if we make a personal admission of our need and a personal decision to trust in and live for Christ. (Ephesians 2:1–3, 8–10; 1 Peter 1:18–19)

Creation

We believe that God is the Creator of all things, having spoken the universe into existence and having formed Adam and Eve personally, in His image. Today, all people are descendants of Adam and Eve and image-bearers of God. (Genesis 1, 2:7, 21–22; Psalm 139:13–16)

The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers

We believe that if we have genuinely accepted God’s gift of salvation, we are assured of our place with Him forever. (John 6:37–40; 1 Corinthians 1:4–8)

The Ministry and Spiritual Gifts

We believe that God blesses His children with spiritual gifts that are meant for the strengthening of believers. We believe that although some gifts that are described in the New Testament ceased once the Bible was complete, others remain and are useful for both individual and corporate ministry. (1 Corinthians 12:4–11; Ephesians 4:7–11)

The Church

We believe that those who have trusted Christ form the Church universal but that the Bible encourages believers also to belong to a local congregation, in which they can grow and encourage growth in others. (1 Corinthians 12:12–14; Ephesians 1:22–23)

Satan

We believe that Satan, a fallen angel, is the great enemy of God and the believer. He seeks to keep people from choosing God’s offer of salvation and to cause Christ-followers to stumble in their faith. Someday he will face the full force of God’s wrath; but even today, we can resist him with the help of the Holy Spirit. (Isaiah 14:12–15; 1 Peter 5:8)

The Second Advent of Christ

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return for His own and that He someday will establish His kingdom on earth. (1 Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13–18; Revelation 3:10, 19:11–16, 20:1–6)

Homosexuality and Same-Sex Marriage

We believe that the Bible establishes sexual union only as part of marriage between a man and a woman. (Genesis 2:18–24; Romans 1:26–27)
